Tattoo Laser Removal

How it works

Step One

Numbing cream!

Depending on the size and your pain tolerance, you may benefit from applying numbing cream before your session.

Step Two

The laser goes into the dermis layer of the skin which will hit the ink and start to break it down.

Small white bumps will appear on the surface.

Step Three

Ice will be applied before, during and after your appointment to cool down the skin and help prevent any blisters that may occur.

Step Four

Your body will then absorb the ink and flush it out by the lymphatic system.

Step Five

You skin will return back to normal and you will need to wait a minimum of 6 weeks before your next session.

During these 6 weeks, your tattoo will begin to fade.

What to expect

Discomfort

While the laser is in use, it will feel like an elastic band hitting against your skin and any discomfort is only felt at the time in the area being done.

For bigger pieces, or if you have a low pain tolerance, we recommend using numbing cream before each session.

Amount of sessions

Unfortunately I can not give you an exact amount of sessions to completely remove your tattoo, as it is influenced by many factors.

We recommend a minimum of 3 session for a cover up, but will still need to be checked by your tattooist to ensure it is light enough.

Skin damage:

Shaving:

Before making an appointment, please keep in mind your holidays, as being in the sun will damage the skin and therefore we won't be able to go through with the appointment. You will need to wait 2 weeks encase, before going or after coming back. For any mild burns, 4-6 weeks minimum is required.

4 weeks will also be needed after tanning beds and 1 week if using any tanning lotions.

Please do not apply any creams and clean the area before your appointment.

You are however, welcome to apply numbing cream to the area on clean skin before your appointment. We recommend 'TKTX gold' numbing cream 1-2 hours before your appointment, making sure to wrap the area in cling film once applied.

Shaving is not necessary before your appointment as I can do that for you, unless you feel more comfortable doing it yourself!

Cooling:

Ice will be applied to the area to cool the skin before the session starts. This will also be done throughout the session to help prevent any blisters that may occur in the healing stages.

Please remember that blistering is perfectly normal as the skin does get warm during the process. Swelling, bruising and having the area appear sun burnt or red afterwards is also expected.

Once the session is over, the area will be iced again, then cling film will be applied to stop any germs or rubbing of clothing on the area.

Scarring:

Remove the cling film once you get home or within an hour of it being put on. Remove it immediately if the area starts sweating.

To further help with preventing blisters, we recommend icing the area yourself too. DO NOT using ice directly onto the skin as this can cause a burn.

Keep the area dry for the first 3 days and then you can start applying some light Aloe Vera cream if needed. Your skin needs to dry out the first few days and scab. DO NOT pick at them as you do not want to disrupt the natural healing process. If you do get blisters, DO NOT pop or pick at them as they will help heal and cool down the area. You can lightly apply a cooling pad to them to help with any discomfort. They should last between 5-7 days.

Try to wear loose clothing to cover the area to prevent any friction of clothing and do not shave for the first couple of days or at all if you have blisters.

When showering, avoid high pressure and hot water and do not soak the area. Try to avoid any harsh chemicals in any products used. Gently pat dry; DO NOT rub dry.

You will need to wait a minimum of 4 weeks between sessions to allow your skin to heal.

Throughout your sessions, the machine will be turned up as your skin gets used to it, however, I will refuse to turn up the machine any higher than recommended to get the tattoo to 'remove faster'.

Rushing the process can lead to scarring so it's best to go slow and to allow yourself to heal properly between sessions!
